“Why Not Me?”: Jon Hamm Addresses His Ongoing Desire To Join The MCU

Jon Hamm has not given up on his chances of joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor has talked on multiple occasions throughout the years about his love for comics, which came from a young age. That has made him a fan-favorite choice for major Marvel and DC roles, such as that of the X-Men villain Mister Sinister and DC's Batman. However, Hamm still has to join either franchise. In June 2024, Hamm revealed he pitched himself for a few MCU roles. Now, the actor shares an update on whether those characters are still available for Marvel's movie slate.

Speaking with ScreenRant's Liam Crowley at the premiere of Apple TV+'s upcoming series Your Friends & Neighbors, Jon Hamm addressed whether the Marvel roles he pitched himself for could still be up for grabs. According to the actor, he has no knowledge of their status, commenting on how secretive Marvel Studios is. However, Hamm remains interested in joining the MCU, saying, "I have a lot of appreciation for that world, so hopefully that's reciprocated." If Avengers: Doomsday's cast is anything to go by, the MCU's next movies will be star-studded, so someone like Hamm would fit right in. Check out the full quote below:

"I don't know. I honestly don't know. Nobody knows what's going on in the secret world of that company, but I do know that I have a lot of… I have a lot of appreciation for that world, so hopefully that's reciprocated. Why not me?"

What Jon Hamm's MCU Casting Comments Mean

The Actor Would Still Love To Join The Franchise

  • Jon Hamm touching his car in Your Friends and Neighbors
  • Your Friends and Neighbors Jon Hamm sitting on porch
  • Jon Hamm in Your Friends and Neighbors
  • Jon Hamm's Coop and Amanda Peet's Mel looking upset at something in Your Friends and Neighbors
  • Jon Hamm as Coop looking deep in thought in Your Friends and Neighbors

When he previously spoke about pitching himself for possible MCU roles, Hamm claimed he did so in connection to a comic book he enjoyed. According to the Your Friends & Neighbors star, he asked Marvel if they were planning on doing something with a specific story

, and when he heard there was interest in doing so, he claimed he "should be the guy." Both then and now, Hamm has kept quiet about which roles he talked to Marvel Studios about, which is no surprise, as the MCU is known for trying to keep its secrets locked up.

Hamm's new comments about joining the MCU seem to confirm that he has not had talks with Marvel since he previously spoke about roles for him in the franchise. The actor does not know whether the roles he suggested himself for have been filled or not. Despite not having a solid update on whether he could join the MCU in the future, Hamm remains excited about the possibility, with his new Marvel comments indicating that if the studio came calling, he would be there in a heartbeat. No matter how long it takes, he wants to join Marvel.

Our Take On Jon Hamm's MCU Casting Comments

The Franchise Could Use A Star Of His Caliber

Mister Sinister with outstretched arms in Marvel Comics

Hamm was considered to play Mister Sinister in the post-credits scene of The New Mutants, which would then have turned into a full-on role in a possible sequel. Hamm responded to his near-casting in the X-Men movie, revealing that he was a big fan of the X-Men and The New Mutants. With the actor still interested in joining the franchise, having pitched himself for Marvel roles based on a story he is a fan of, I would love to see Jon Hamm finally play Mister Sinister on the big screen. He could be part of the MCU's X-Men reboot.
